Assembly with Thermosets
In support of Woodland Plastics’ thermoset molding capabilities, we also offer secondary operations and sourcing services as a full turnkey supplier. Aside from thermoset molding, Woodland can source hardware and component items, and assemble finish goods in-house prior to customer shipments. Woodland Plastics understands managing a complex supplier base can be challenging, and as such we offer turn-key services to mitigate pain points in a supply chain for our customers. Whether a product application requires the addition of post-molded inserts, fasteners, o-rings, or other components to complete a product assembly, Woodland Plastics can source from local, quality-approved suppliers and manage the entire turn-key product from thermoset material sourcing to shipping a high-quality finished assembly to our customers.
Below is an example of a large assembly project containing multiple main finished assemblies. Each main finished product assembly contains various thermoset and thermoplastic parts injection molded by Woodland, in addition to up to 30 different sourced hardware items per assembly, including inserts, washers, orings, retaining rings, and screws, among other hardware items and components. After parts have been injection molded, some of the molded parts are sent out to be painted, pad printed, or machined for threading. When brought back in-house, Woodland assembles each main product assembly prior to shipment to customer specifications. From start to finish, these main product assemblies use up to 50 different part numbers throughout the manufacturing and assembly process.
In order to ensure finished product assemblies meet customer drawings and specifications, Woodland Plastics develops an incoming receiving inspection process of all sourced hardware items and outsourced secondary operations, in addition to performing standard on-going production quality checks and SPC inspections on molded parts. Prior to production assembly, Woodland creates detailed custom work instructions with pictures and visual instructions for completing each step of the assembly. Additionally, Woodland reviews all assembly steps in this pre-production phase and orders necessary hand tools and installation equipment to make the assembly as efficient as possible without causing operator discomfort at any station or step of the assembly. Prior to packaging, each finished assembly is 100% tested to ensure quality product is shipped to the customer.
In conclusion, Woodland Plastics offers much more than our thermoset injection molding services and expertise. Woodland can manage and support a multitude of sourcing and assembly related project requirements, from hardware or component sourcing and assembly, to selecting and managing qualified vendor partners and supplier channels. If you have a thermoset product that requires assembly or component sourcing, give us a call and let Woodland develop a custom manufacturing and assembly program to provide turnkey products and minimize costs and headaches of managing a complex supply chain.
