Tooling Manager

Job Description:
Summary/Objective
The Tooling Manager oversees predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance and repairs on all tooling, fixtures and other special equipment required to meet and maintain customer specifications as well as cost efficiency. The Tooling Manager supervises the Mold Technician.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable
- Assign work, set goals and monitor progress of the Mold Technician.
- Monitor tooling suppliers to ensure timely delivery of outsourced work. Provide progress reports to customers as required.
- Problem Solving
- Provide support to troubleshoot and solve issues.
- Maintain active role on internal continuous improvement teams.
- Tooling Maintenance and Repair
- Define and maintain predictive and preventive maintenance schedules for tooling in computer system.
- Coordinate with management, customers, production and tooling suppliers to schedule/perform all in house and outsourced tooling maintenance and repairs.
- Request quotations for tooling maintenance and repairs from tooling suppliers, ensure quotations are provided on time.
- Issue purchase orders to suppliers on maintenance and repairs to current tooling.
- Maintain tooling asset list and records/history in computer system.
- Collect data related to tooling maintenance and repairs, analyze, summarize and present to management team.
- Tooling Budget Accountability
- Set and maintain tooling budget according to forecasted sales.
- Tooling Uptime
- Maintain tooling uptime to minimize impact on the customer.
- Miscellaneous
- Purchase supplies needed for tool room.
- Manufacture items related to the interaction of tooling/machine as required by Maintenance/Engineering (Sprue Bushing, Knockout Bars, Nozzle Tips, etc.).
- Assists Tooling Design and Testing Engineer with requests for custom tooling, fixturing and measuring equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility
The Tooling Manager supervises the Mold Technician.
Minimum Qualifications for Hire
1. Completed Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
2. 5+ years of tool making experience.
3. Familiarity with predictive and preventive maintenance concepts.
4. Ability to read and follow Blueprints.
5. Comfortable using basic computer software (Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word).
6. High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications (On the job training provided)
1. Experience in injection molded thermosets.
2. Supervisory experience.
3. Able to use overhead crane.
4. Knowledge of general safety best practices.
5. Knowledge of all applicable quality standards.
6. Proficient in applicable IQMS software modules.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Some of the work will be performed in manufacturing facility where the noise level may be loud.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, 40 hours of work expected per week. General business hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
