Transmission Housing Extension for Automotive Industry

An automotive industry customer in Mexico contracted with us to manufacture this Nylon transmission housing extension. We fabricated the mold based on the customer’s part drawings, which resulted in a part made from a single cavity mold, which was then machined after molding. The 1.2 pound housing was molded in our 300 ton injection molding equipment using 33% glass filled Nylon 66.

After molding, the inside diameter was machined, and then measured for dimensional accuracy. Once the housing was completed the part went to assembly which required the installation of torque limiters and seals, followed by leak testing.

The completed product featured a wall thickness of 3.5mm, it was 1232mm in length, and 187.85mm in width, and met tolerances of ±.1mm, and ±5.
